General Summary:

The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for managing daily account balances for customers of ArcBest by identifying delinquent payment situations. This role is also responsible for the collection of delinquent accounts by contacting customers and investigating circumstances of non-payment.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Resolve account past due issues, billing disputes, misapplied payments, and other requests as needed to insure accurate and timely payment of invoices.
  • Determine root cause issue for late payments and implement problem solving solutions to prevent future late payments from customers.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service for both internal and external customers
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of individual customer accounts to efficiently and effectively handle account balance inquiries
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment
  • Build, develop, and grow all internal business relationships vital to the success of increasing revenue growth and customer experience across the Enterprise.
  • Improve quality, productivity, and effectiveness through the Quality Process in the handling of customers with a past due A/R balance.
  • Work and contribute in a team setting to accomplish overall department and individual goals


Required Education, Experience, Certification, Licenses, Registration:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with Business emphasis
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in Logistics, Operations, Transportation and/or other related field preferred


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in the entire suite of Microsoft programs as well as the ability to learn new systems quickly, preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to multi-task while a strong sense of urgency while managing time effectively and efficiently
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize job duties in order to efficiently handle a number of different tasks at any given time
  • Ability to work independently, offer direct and factually based recommendations, conform easily based on shifting priorities, and take an unbiased approach to work
  • Must be detail oriented and enjoy a rapidly changing, multi-tasking, customer service minded environment while displaying a sense of urgency and ability to work under pressure with attention to detail


Work Environment:

  • This is a corporate office environment with multiple workstations. Each employee will have his/her own workstation.
