Overview

General Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Customers Compliance Supervisor is to work with Operations, Sales, and Management to design, implement, and manage customs regulations and compliance as they relate to all ground shipments within the organization. The Customs Compliance Supervisor is also responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation as it relates to his/her subordinates and the Ground Operations department when providing services that require customs compliance.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance across all of General Operations for any shipment(s) crossing the border, including bonded shipments.
  • Has the authority to implement discipline (including corrective actions) and coaching to any employee in Ground Operations performing outside of customs compliance standards.
  • Lead and manage all customs-related audits issued by Government offices (C-TPAT, TSA) and investigate and respond to claims accordingly.
  • Maintains all records, processes, and procedures at Government standards or better in order to pass all compliance audits (audits occur quarterly at a minimum).
  • Hire, develop, monitor, discipline, and make termination decisions for team of 2-5 Canadian Desk employees in accordance with corporate expectations.
  • Onboard and develop new Canadian Desk employees as needed.
  • Administer performance appraisals for team of 2-5 employees to determine incentives, promotions, and raises in accordance with corporate expectations.
  • Determine staffing needs for the Canadian Desk and follow requisition approval process
  • Train Canadian Desk employees on all aspects of customs compliance and corporate compliance standards and continue to train as laws and compliance standards evolve.
  • Work in tandem with the corporate training department to lead company-wide training initiatives to maintain or improve compliance.
  • Create goals and development plans for staff of 2-5 employees that not only benefit their personal development, but that also will increase compliance performance across the company.
  • Develop and train strategies to confirm Panther’s CSA scores are within the guidelines set forth by the Canadian Transportation authority.
  • Work as a consultant to management to create and implement initiatives that will make each department compliant with the CSA standards.
  • Assist the Orientation Coordinators with the training of our owner-operators, serving as a subject matter expert as needed to support recruiting and retention initiatives within our fleet.
  • Provide coaching to owner-operators on shipments to meet paperwork requirements and maintain compliance standards.
  • Assist all Vertical Business Units with problem resolution regarding any concerns when handling any ground shipment that has Customs requirements. Work as an advisor to the customer directly if needed.
  • Monitor and communicate company-wide regarding laws and regulations related to customs compliance as these topics relate to ground transportation.
  • Continue education to stay up-to-date with law and regulation changes and keep operations and management informed as these changes occur.
  • Lead and implement training and process roll-out if regulations and laws change significantly.
  • Responsible for responding to questions, concerns, and issues regarding Customs shipments during evening hours, on weekends, and on holidays.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, Certification, Licenses, Registration:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred
  • 3+ years of customs clearances interactions
  • 4+ years of operations experience
  • Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT)
  • Partners In Protect (P.I.P)
  • Customs Self-Assessment
  • Free and Secure Trade
  • IAC Air Cargo Recurrent Security Training
  • N.A.F.T.A.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • U.S. Customs Border Protection Rules and Regulations

  • Competent with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Work Environment:

  • This is a corporate office environment with multiple workstations. Each employee will have his/her own workstation.
